CES 2012 for Dummies: Vol.2

Day 1

It’s that time of year again.

No, not when the HOA is on your butt about your Christmas lights.

It’s CES time.

Once again, we nerds come together at the Consumer Electronic show to share, innovate, and run into one another from a lack of looking forward due to our smartphones. Having my experience from last year under my belt and 1 exp in Map Navigation -despite being a female- let us go forth once again with another CES for Dummies, Vol. 2.

Now that we’ve gotten introductions and what not out of the way, let’s get right into things.

There is one fact that I did learn today:

Nintendo’s 3DS aint got nothing on Sony’s PSVita.

I’m not one to be into handhelds at all but the Vita is something I actually might buy. The one thing that stands out about the Vita is that it actually has two screens. The traditional two screened setup from the DS is not what is used here however. There is screen on the front of the handheld as well as the back. In launch titles such as Little Deviants, this makes the environment around a player interactive, causing you to actually move in a complete 360 to play a game.

Now of course, this sounds a little silly.

Imagine walking down the street and spinning around constantly. Sounds like a skit where someone gets hit by a car doesn’t it.

Despite how silly it sounds, you actually stop caring rather quickly. The games are just that fun. As well as Little Deviants launching with the PSVita, a handheld version of both Uncharted and Resistance will launch as well.

Sony had a quite a few other things at their booth as well. One of those things being their new Sony Tablet P that can seamlessly act as a controller for all your Sony devices. In a nutshell, it’s enabling all of the laziness that we’ve all tried to get rid of over the start of the New Year (It’s okay, I wasn’t going to make my New Year’s Resolution either).

The P tablet is running on Google Android Honeycomb 3.2, with Wi-Fi, AT&T’s 4G, as well as full access to the full suite of Sony Network Entertainment services.

The price and release date have yet to be announced but, it will be well worth the wait for anyone with a Sony eccentric entertainment system.

That along with Sony’s new Crystal LED Display Prototype, which pictures just couldn’t do justice, Sony made everybody look a little lackluster.

Next on our agenda was Beamz Interactive who had something I’m not quite sure how to categorize.

Have you ever wanted to be a DJ? Ever listen to your music and conduct your own symphony of guitars, drums, and keyboards to go along?

Beamz Interactive Music System lets you do just that. It’s a system that works off a formation of lasers that play a gargantuan assortment of instruments and sounds. With the basic music player, you become your own personal DJ and add to any song available. With the Pro system however, you can create your own soundtrack from scratch. By simply attaching the USB to your computer a television, you have a complete orchestra of every instrument and sound at your finger tips.

Beamz has a lot planned for the future with their product but, for now, this was enough to make me interested. Go check out their work in action or their own site here.

Last on the list today was Turtle Beach’s new line of headset.

We all know them well and today they announced their newest additions to the family of headsets we all use to insult twelve years olds in Florida. The two being the Ear Force XP400 and the XP300 premium wireless gaming headsets. Both optimized for wireless gaming audio and chat on both Xbox 360 and PS3, they debut with an upgraded 2.4/5GHz Wi-Fi. Now I don’t know about you but, I didn’t know what that meant when I heard it. So, for all of us slower people, there will be a whole less interference in your sound.

So, no more annoying crackling noises while I’m telling some pre-teen that he was adopted.

For full specs on both headsets, check here.

So that was it for today. We have two more awesome days of adventures and me being confused ahead of us. If you missed it, here is a quick video of some other things that I saw today.

If there is anything in particular you would like me to check out or learn about let me know.

Before you ask; yes, I do come with pre-made sandwiches and cooking skills. I'm Joycelin, mostly known as Jae, and I'm about the nerdiest, quirkiest, and quietest black chick you will ever meet. I go back to N64 days as far as gaming. Zelda: Ocarina of Time is what got me into hardcore gaming and the rest are just years blistered thumbs and late nights with a controller in hand.
