3DS Becomes Fastest Selling Hardware in Japan at 5 million

The 3DS has reached the five million mark today in Japan 52 weeks after its launch in February 26, 2011, which is a record for hardware sales in Japan.

The DS achieved this sales record in 56 weeks and the Game Boy Advance in 58 weeks.

The sales data, courtesy of Media Create, for the 3DS is actual sell-through, so now five million gamers in Japan own Nintendo’s new handheld.
